Caleb usually has some sort of fish in his room...I always think to myself that when they die I will NOT replace them with another one but you know me I have this soft spot for animals and we usually are at Petsmart the next day. So we lost one of our zebra fish (zeebs) and I promised Caleb we would replace it.
So during spring break, Carrie and kids came for a few days to visit (cut short by some sort of food poisoning or stomach bug that went through my 3 kids and Carrie....yuck). Anyway, after about 10 hours of Caleb begging to go to the pet store to look for fish Carrie and I took all 6 kids to the pet store. Caleb chose 2 new Zebra fish and then Noah decided to chose a fish too. He had a quarter in his hand so he got the $.26 "feeder" gold fish. The the name he chose was Baits since the fish was saved from being Bait from another larger fish at the pet store.
Caleb agreed to keep Baits here at our house and decided Baits would be most happy in the fish tank w/ the filter.
I woke up this morning thinking about getting the kids out the door for Easter church service (Jeff is out of town)... when I heard Caleb.."Oh no, Baits is out of the tank". As I quickly awoke from my sleepish state Caleb came running into my bedroom...Baits had somehow "jumped" out of the tank and was helplessly lying on the floor...not breathing. I quickly said I was so sorry (we've had other fish somehow get out of this tank???) and explained that this fish was not one we thought would live a long time. Caleb went running back into his room and then back to mine to announce, "Mom, I know this fish is going to come back to life because it is Resurrection Sunday and he is going to make it!". I hid my laughter and said, "Oh honey, we'll see. I think that it is probably dead. Let's go see".
We went to find the "dead" fish to flush. In the meantime, Olivia and Landin had flicked the fish across to the other side of the room, nice, huh? I quickly put the fish in the net and put him back into the water. He was hardly moving and floated to the bottom. But we were in hurry for church and needed to take care of "fish business" later.
Guess what we found when we got home from church? A fish that is breathing and swimming around! Can you believe it? Resurrection Sunday for sure! (I will let you know if he is still alive tomorrow! HA!)

Wonderful post, capturing a precious story of a fish lover and a sweet boy who believes in Jesus and the power of His resurrection. Happy Easter and keep Baits alives for as many hours or days, the Lord knows. Thanks for PUKEFEST '09, what a spring break huh?
